What is a Brain-Based Model of Chiropractic Care?

The brain and nervous system control everything you think, feel and do, thereby controlling the health of your entire body. They are the master control centers of the body which direct and regulate the immune, digestive, cardiovascular, endocrine and musculoskeletal systems. Therefore, many, if not all, health conditions have a brain-based component of varying degrees.

This means that regardless of whatever disease or symptoms a person is suffering from – whether it is pain, digestive disturbances, allergies, hormonal disruptions, etc. – dysfunction of the brain and nervous system are often contributing factors.

The job of the Chiropractic Neurologist is to determine, via a standardized functional neurological examination, if and how the brain and nervous system may be contributing to a person’s symptoms.

Therapy Tools

Virtualis
The world’s first motion Virtual Reality simulator for healthcare. This cutting-edge tool has a dynamic suite of exercises adaptable for a wide array of conditions ranging anywhere from vertigo, to traumatic brain injury, movement disorders or stroke rehabilitation.

Interactive Metronome
Interactive Metronome® (IM) is an evidence-based assessment and training tool that measures & improves the synchronization of neural impulses within key brain networks for cognitive, communicative, sensory & motor performance.

Neural Sensorimotor Integrator (NSI)
The original multi-disciplinary therapy system for rehabilitation. Using a 50 inch HD TV and touch screen, the NSI offers therapies to improve pursuits, saccades, eye-hand coordination, visual reaction time, speed and span of recognition, visual-vestibular integration, oculomotor skills, visual motor skills and neurocognitive skills.

Motion Guidance
Motion Guidance is a visual feedback system that involves a laser and various targets to allow for enhanced learning and instant awareness of positional abnormalities. This tool is designed to offer more engaging cues toward rehabilitation goals, create a superior learning environment, reveal body awareness and skill in ways that are easy to understand and allow real-time feedback for movement range, skill, and motor control.

Fitlight Trainer
FITLIGHT Trainer™ is a wireless reaction training system that provides a new, dynamic and visual learning framework to enhance sensory and motor skills, identification and focus, and reactivity. It allows users to engage in functional and social learning by providing motivational exercises for the enhancement of mental capacity, perception, and concentration.

Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Field (PEMF) Therapy
The PEMF device delivers powerful, ultrashort pulses that harmlessly slop past a cell’s exterior, activate internal organelles and improve cell function. Pulsed electromagnetic field is a soothing and energetic modality that can help people across the spectrum stimulate their bodies to enhance overall wellness.

Bio-Electro-Magnetic-Energy-Regulation (BEMER)
BEMER application boosts blood flow, thus benefiting the body’s cardiac system, regenerative ability and mental acuity. It does this by emitting electromagnetic fields generated by weakly pulsating special multidimensional signal configuration to stimulate rhythmic contraction of small blood vessels in living organisms.

Non-Invasive Nerve Stimulation
Utilizing a non-invasive nerve stimulator, out doctors can use sensory stimulation to drive specific nerve pathways and areas of the brain to enhance neurological performance.

Treatment Questions

Can the brain really be rehabilitated? Many people are surprised that the brain can be remodeled to function correctly. This process is called Neuroplasticity, which means that the brain can change itself to have either more connections in one area or less connections in another.

How is it possible to get the brain to do this? Let’s say you are learning to play the piano. As you are practicing, the part of your brain that controls your hands will make more connections and you will become more efficient in your ability to play because your brain is growing. The challenge for patients is getting the correct part of the nervous system treated for their specific situation. When people are treated with a protocol instead of a tailor-made plan that impacts them in the specific way that they need to be treated, their treatment will therefore be less effective.

What types of treatments will create Neuroplasticity? Brain connections can be modulated using any of your five senses or thought. Therefore we can use any therapy that will affect sight, sound, smell, taste or touch/movement. To do this correctly, we use specific brain-based therapies and therapeutic tools to improve brain function. After the initial examination, our team will determine which treatments or tools would be beneficial for you specifically. This makes every treatment individualized and based on your specific exam findings. We call this our Healthy Brain Now™ treatment plan.
